Bay Kennels

Bay Kennels has been in the business of breeding high quality Chesapeakes, Labradors and Golden Retrievers since 1975. We have developed a comprehensive breeding program to produce quality hunting/companion dogs. Our goal is to breed sound pups with the physical and mental characteristics that exhibit outstanding desire and trainability.

Phil Neri is the owner and operator of the facility. The kennel has been in operation in Sioux City, Iowa since 1982 and is located on our home property. Sioux City is located on the western border of Iowa where Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa touch.

Our business gets our personal attention. All members of the family participate in the kennel business by assisting customers, caring for the pets, cleaning and maintaining the kennels and managing the business.

Nothing makes a hunt more rewarding than watching a trained dog work. It not only makes hunting more enjoyable but a trained dog conserves game as you lose fewer cripples. We use the latest in training aids possible: TriTronics Collars, TriTronics Automatic Bird Releasers, Max 5000 Launchers, and Zinger Winger Throwers. The basic gun dog program lasts 16 weeks. The first 8 weeks are solid obedience training along with force breaking and whistle training. The last 8 weeks are spent in the field and water. Decoys are used along with quartering techniques.

Bay Kennels also offers obedience training. Group classes meet for one hour one evening each week for eight weeks. This class teaches the basic manners of sit, stay, come, down, heel and place. The dogs should be a minimum of six month of age. We recommend that as many members of the family attend the training classes as possible. This will help with the consistency of the commands and corrections. Your dog will learn and retain the training when the commands and corrections are applied consistently. Since other dogs and their families are present, this is a great opportunity to socialize your dog.

Bay Kennels offers extensive boarding services; providing a worry-free environment for your pet while you are away. All dogs are required to have a full complement of shots, which includes: rabies, DHLPP and bordetella. Vaccinations are required to be current before boarding check-in. The kennel facility is designed with your pet's comfort in mind. Some of the features include: air-conditioned and heated runs, a large exercise area, sleeping platforms, and air-circulating fans. Reservations are required for boarding space. We recommend calling at least two weeks ahead of time to reserve your kennel space. For holiday weekends, please call at least three weeks in advance. Since we live on the premises, we are able to offer more convenient drop-off and pick-up times. Evening and weekends drop-offs and pick-ups are by appointment.
